In October 2001, the Indonesian legislature passed the new Oil and Gas Law 22/2001. Under the new law, downstream activity is fully opened for new players. A regulatory body (Badan Pengatur Minyak dan Gas, BP Migas) has been established to handle regulatory responsibilities in downstream sector for trading, distribution and marketing.
